Ryan Rally in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Saturday (Oct 20) 10:15am

Yes, Pennsylvania is in play … The Romney campaign jumps all over the Keystone State momentum sending Paul Ryan to Pittsburgh tomorrow.  This location is a brilliant choice by the Romney campaign. First, chances are you will get a large turnout because it is a population center. Second, sending Ryan tests the waters with a surrogate rather than the more vital use of the top guy.  If things go well and you see poll movement the pump is primed for a push with Romney.  Third, the visit is guaranteed to generate plenty of news like any other campaign stop in a major media market.  This gets heightened based on the aggressiveness of playing on Obama’s turf.  Fourth, Pittsburgh media coverage reaches well into eastern Ohio which is blue Obama country.  The obvious boon there cannot be underestimated. Very shrewd on many levels.

HOLY HELL…The VP candidate is invading Blue Country….this says A LOT about what their internal polling is telling them. This could be a backdoor to 270 (don’t need Ohio or Wisconsin with PN) or it could be icing if they think see this thing wrapping up.

Either way…this is a big F’n deal…and Chicago cannot be happy.

No surprise at all. Obama infiltrated Red Territory 4yrs ago…now Romney is infiltrating Blue Territory. It does speak volumes on the state of the race. Obama will likely have to spend time defending Democratic territory.

you are correct…but this isn’t 2008 as far as total enthusiasm, etc. This is a pretty big deal for any republican since what 88 to even put up a fight in PN. Even if this is a way to just make Obama spend money and time it sends a message.

I think the Senate race has a lot to do with it.

This is the state for Mitt to win the election, not Ohio. That’s my humble opinion.

Penn is like having an insurance policy. And we all should have insurance, right?

Pennsylvania has an excellent chance of going red this year. I continue to say Romney will have 350+ electoral votes. The Mitt-mentum is all with Romney. You’ll see more on these blue states possibly going red over the next 2 weeks.

Very smart. Controlling the narrative and at minimum appear to be winning(though he probably is too). Team Romney knows the key to victory is to discourage the democratic base.

Band Wagon Effect….with a close close race in Ohio and Wisconsin…enough people see Romney challenging Pennsylvania they may think Romney is indeed taking the state and may jump on board. Politics is symbolic as much as facts and opinion. You have a sitting president having his ass handed to him in states he won handedly 4 years ago, he is losing nationally, got spanked in a debate….suddenly you show up in the DEEP BLUE states like you are in it to win it….you can pull a few thousand votes. And in a close case a few thousand may be the difference between MAKING and RECIEVING a concession call on election night.

I like that they are contesting it.. but I really have a hard time thinking PA would go to Romney before OH would.. still think Ohio is the biggest key! Hope Romney gets them both!

O won PA in 2008 by ten and OH by just 5. At the rate some of these states are swinging, I would think that OH will turn red first but there are no Marist or CNN polls in PA (yet). Last weeks firewall, VA, FL, VA, this weeks firewall, IA, NH, NV, OH, next weeks firewall PA, WI, MI, MN…….two weeks from now, it will be IL, CT, NJ……wouldn’t that be nice, total breach. HA

I’m from PA and believe me 2012 is not 2008 or 2004. Romney’s a far better fit for this state than either McCain or Bush W as far as the swing districts around Philadelphia are concerned–and they usually are the determinants in any election here, with the Dems controlling the Pittsburgh-Philadelphia vote and the Republicans doing better in the rest of the state.

More than this, there are some huge issues that have been roiling this state for some time. For one thing, it has a big pro-life Catholic population in the NE that vehemently resents Obama’s intrusion on religious liberty. For another, fracking has been opposed by both Obama and Casey–which is still another reason Casey can’t poll above 46%. Then of course there’s the coal issue. This won’t be a replay of past elections imo.

So many Catholics, so little time. 😉 I love that they are going to Pittsburgh!! The ultimate old-line democrat, blue-collar, union, your parents’ democrat party hub. May 20,000 plus turn out.

I have hoped and watched the PA vote totals for the past 5 presidental elections and have been disappointed. If I see 10,000 people there tomorrow, it may change my jaded heart :).
