There are always 4-5 solid jokes in any Al Smith speech. Speech writers bring their A-game.

Mitt hit rather hard with those jokes too. It’s great. I really like how he got Katie Couric to clap when he mentioned “innocent not yet born.” (She reported had a picture of Margaret Sanger on her office wall at CBS.)

Great stuff, thanks for posting this Keith. I emailed it to everyone I know, even the Obama supporters I’m trying to flip.

Mitt Romney looks 55 at worst. Clean living will do that for ya!

That patrician sneer of his just ruins it.

Yeah, Chris Matthews almost ruined it for me.

I thought he and Obama were both really funny with the digs back and forth. But Obama just didn’t seem too into it. Only really smiled when he looked over at the Romney’s and got some of their juice.

Mitt Romney continues to show a side of himself to the public that counters the ad campaigns that the Obama camp used to frame him earlier in the year. Interestingly, we’ve heard very little recently from Paul Ryan who was supposed to fill the charismatic void on the ticket. And on the flip side, Joe Biden’s every-man likability was squandered during the VP debate. Obama is making efforts to recapture what was lost in debate #1 with his perfromance in debate #2 and at the dinner last night. But the likability gap has definitely been negated effectively by team Romney.

Funny material, delivered surprisingly well. Great timing. Reminded me a little of Bob Hope.
