We’ll see if these two tweets from the VP debate hold up true again. I really think both candidates lose when they violate these ideas:
Regarding the view of Undecideds on CNN holding dials that go up and down depending on how they view the answers:
- Kristen Soltis @KLSoltis Every time Ryan talks about a plan with concrete ideas, squiggles go through the roof.
- Kristen Soltis @KLSoltis Anytime either guy goes negative, not so much. Voters want plans, not punches.
Post-Town Hall debate reactions:
- EdMorrissey @EdMorrissey Ron Fournier calls it a draw at National Journal http://nationaljournal.com/2012-presidential-campaign/who-won-the-debate-obama-romney-tie-in-presidential-showdown-20121016 … Inclined to agree.
- Greta Van Susteren @gretawire Pres Obama got about 3 minutes more talk time and the last word
- Jonah Goldberg @JonahNRO CNN undecided lines loved Obama’s answer until he brought up 47%. Then they all went down.
- McKay Coppins @mckaycoppins Sununu in the spin room: “The president quite often is a liar.”
- Kristen Soltis @KLSoltis This is the game that ends in a tie but all anyone will talk about is the pick-6 in the 3rd quarter.
- Rick Klein @rickklein Obama was having decent debate until Libya exchange. Surprisingly, that played into his favor – he grabbed his moment. #debates
- Mike Memoli @mikememoli . @SavannahGuthrie nails it: Obama wanted to “re-disqualify Romney.”
- Kyle Smith @rkylesmith Gergen on Romney: “He looks much more like he could be a president than he did 2 weeks ago.”

- Erin Burnett @ErinBurnett Post-debate Bottomline: if you had to vote tonight? #obama picked up 7 votes, #romney 5 at focus group #cnndebates
- Kyle Smith @rkylesmith Not so sure Obama should want media talking about his response to Libya for a few more days, though.

- National Journal Headline: In Second Debate, Obama Survives to Fight Another Day [Not exactly an overwhelming endorsement]
- Tucker Carlson @TuckerCarlson Her many friends in the press will claim otherwise, but honestly when was the last time you saw someone do a worse job moderating a debate?

Obama is coming off agitated, and not very Presidential.
Wow — two questions in a row that the Obama campaign is ecstatic got asked
wow!!! who would have thunk it
What I don’t get is why Candy Crowly keeps cutting off Romney, and lets Obama build up, what is now, a speaking time excess of 4 minutes:
23:40
19:33
Otherwise, looks like a wash. I can’t imagine that Obama has won back any votes.
because shes candy crowley
OK, I take that back. The last 3 minutes that Romney did rocked. That was amazing. And Candy is being very aware and fair with the time, by cutting off Obama’s turn.
Romney going to the left now on immigration to Obama, lol.
His answer that brought up Obama’s campaign promises and policies was masterful. He just effectively prosecuted the case against giving Obama another chance and politely noted that you can’t believe any of the promises he makes due to his past record.
CNN focus group LOVING this @MittRomney answer on immigration. Dial testing results are off the charts. Didn’t see that coming.
HERE COMES THE BOOM
Who picks the debate moderators? Why not a conservative for one of the debates.
Agreed. Never a conservative, always a lefty.
Obama gets very defensive on Libya, he’s showing he’s not use to having someone call him out on his handling of the truth about what happened there.
He doesn’t like to be questioned and has very thin skin.
did anyone get those rose-garden transcripts. Did Obama call the act in Libya et.al…a terrorist act?
He was vague, but basically called it an act of terror that was provoked by the Mohammed video. But murder is always an act of terror, isn’t it? Terrorism is very different.
He mentioned acts of terror in passing, but really didn’t explicitly call Libya one.
Obama DID NOT call this a terrorist attack while he was with Hillary in the Rose Garden. He called it an “attack” “shocking and outrageous attack”, a “terrible act” but not a terrorist attack. Here’s the proof.
Romney didn’t want to talk about Libya. First time I have seem him stammer with uhs…
I don’t think the Libya thing has any traction at all. Hopefully this buries it, because its all about the economy. About the only way that Romney beats Obama on foreign policy, is if he goes Clint Eastwood and says its time to get out of Afghanistan.
Romney is at his best when he’s hammering on the economy anyways. And does pretty well touting his record on bipartisanship.
He has a whole debate next week to deal with Libya. I’d say getting involved into a ding dong battle this time was not part of the plan.
Candy Crowley a big liberal hack. Unbelievable. I call this a draw and no momentum for Obama, Romney needs to run the ads now of Libya and the lie by Barry.
RE BATTLEGROUNDS!!!!
Romney: mentions PA right out of the box
Obama: Michigan, Iowa, and Colorado. No Virginia???
CBS debate Instapoll on economy Romney 65 0bama 34.
Obama was very agitated, he rarely smiled. It was like a lawyer trying to defend a guilty client.
Very well said.
Democrats think “winning” a debate consists of interrupting people. I expected Obama to say “What about Dingell-Norwood?”
ABC panel gave the nod to Romney, Fox News calls it a draw.
That has to be a make-up call for blowing it so bad last debate
Frank Luntz from his focus group: This is as significant as Denver – Most of the group are switching from Obama to Romney, they voted for Obama in 2008 but NOT in 2012
I caught that Luntz group result too….I was very happy. But geeeeze were all these folks really undecided? They gave strong opinions. I’d say the participants probably had a favorite…
yeah, the Luntz focus groups are no more “undecided” than most of those questioners tonight….if it’s real, it’s a nice bit of news, though.
CNN polls?
CNN Says 0bama 46, Romney 39 woth RVs.
CNN 46%-39% Obama.
CNN focus group says Obama gained 7 new votes, Romney 5.
I have never believed these are real undecideds because they all seem to have strong opinions.
Two things going for Romney despite a slight loss, fewer are watching tonight, and third debate is only 6 days away can come back on foreign policy anpuck up some points.
In all honesty I have never been a fan if this style ifof debate. Too scripted. Candy Crowley talking on CNN how she wanted to insert herself be on their level, etc. For a real town I think it should the audience asking each candidate with no follow up. This debate to me had a lot of WTF statements on both sides
Crowley now admits Romney was right, only chose the wrong words.
And I’m sure they will blast that all over their web page.
Luntz’s group went hard for Romney. I was surprised as I thought it was closer to a draw, but it could be the preference cascade gathering steam. I am pretty sure Obama won’t get much out of tonight and it may just make things accelerate for Romney.
was surprised about Luntz’s group, but I think we can be seeing the preference cascade picking up steam as people find it acceptable to walk away from Obama and choose Romney. I doubt that Obama did much to help himself tonight, and we may see accelerating movement to Romney
ANYONE in these focus groups saying Obama talked about his record and future vision tonight was not an undecided.
Even my apolitical wife mentioned that Obama always talks about why we shouldn’t vote for Romney never says why we should vote for him
It’s in the optics. Wavering voters are looking for a reassuring-type of guy for president, someone who has leadership qualities, who will take charge and get the country out of the mess that it’s in. I think undecided voters, as in this Luntz group AND his group from the previous presidential debate see these qualities in Romney. They’re tired of all the Obama words but no action. He tries to spin the web of words that worked in 2008 but they’re not buying this time around. I think the momentum will continue for Mitt, right until the election.
CNN/ORC debate viewers: Stronger leader? Romney 49, Obama 46
CNN polls show HUGE advantages for Romney on economy, health care and deficit.
CNN says poll if registered voters us 33%/33% democrat republican but caveat that that is 8 points over sampled for as the average fOr republicans in the country is only 25% <<<< wtf that seems way wrong but maybe It's jot
CNN polls show Romney beat Obama in Economy, Healthcare and Taxes….
CNN Confirms CBS: 58-40% in Romney’s favor on Economy; 49-46 R healthcare; 51-44 R taxes; 59-36 R on Deficit.
This is all that matters:
CBS Post-Debate Poll: Romney Wallops Obama On Economy 65-34%: CBS News did a post-debate poll that showed Obama … http://bit.ly/XlzwXx
No one cares about anything else in comparison.
CNN poll of debate watchers: Did O offer a clear plan for solving country problems? Yes 38%; No 61%. CNN poll of debate watchers: Did Romney offer a clear plan for solving country’s problems? 49% yes; 50% no.
The difference in the yeses–11 points–will be close to the margin of victory. Bank on it.
I’m right there with you on that prediction William…cha ching lol
