I am first generation American, my Slovak mother told me when I was 21, “Do you realize you can get on an airplane and fly all the way to California and not one person can ask you why”? At the time, I thought she was nuts. It took me studying history and 40 more years of living to understand her message, in fact, her many messages about “being an American”.

I grew up in USSR. Americans are blind, they dont realize whats happening to this country. USA is the greatest country in the world. It is being destroyed from within. Its sad. Thomas gets it, most of Americans don’t …..sad

I was born in Budapest also in 1939 and had to flee in 1944 to Austria. The Russians slaughtered my whole family and I came to the US in 1955. Mr. Peterffy and his Republican ilk are the ones destroying our democratic system here. With their money they are trying to buy the government and impose their oligarchic and religious thinking on the 99% of Americans. I love the American system and abhor the Peterffys who are using Socialism as a red herring to scare us.

Final warning: Personal attacks and insults will not be tolerated. I just deleted 3 comments. I have no problem with opposition opinions, but hair-pulling, name-calling and other childish behavior has no place here. There are plenty of other idiotic sites on the Internet for such tripe. Keep it there because it won’t be allowed here.

Also, I would like you to tell us what you mean by socialism. This word has a negative connotation because it gets mixed up with communism. The Republicans use it as a scare-word and as a cover to justify their ‘trickle-down’ economic ideas and get away with not paying their fair share into the society they live in.
