Winning the Battleground News Cycle in Iowa

Yesterday we had a couple posts on the fantastic imagery of Romney in the Rain during his Virginia rallies.  Today we see Romney getting top notch treatment from THE paper in Iowa, the Des Moines Register after his sit-down with the editorial board yesterday.  The readership is wide in Iowa but the region is blue country making it doubly rich.  Also note the unique ‘cardinal and gold” Romney/Ryan placards being waved?  Those were from some enterprising students at Iowa State University using its school colors.  Good sign from the youth vote. This is how a campaign with momentum creates a lasting positive impression with voters (h/t @KevinMaddenDC):

The larger towns may be blue country but there’s a lot of republican ground too. It is like all battlegrounds, which side can pull enough of the other over for a win, Romney is resonating with a lot of folks. Time will tell, but solid debates and no major screw ups and you’ll see this in the Republican column come November.

Mitt Romney was warmly welcomed! Everyone who attended that speech will always remember the laughing and emotional connection to Mitt Romney as he told of accidently crashing a neighbors Christmas Party and then the horrible groaning from the entire crowd as we learned that one of the people from that neighborhood party was a Navy Seal recently killed in the Bengahzi Consulate Attack!

Quite a few people remembered back to another cold, windy October day when we came together in a cornfield hear of another leader talking about importance of Farmers and their Stewardship of the land. Blessed Pope John Paul II was the other speaker from 33 years before Mitt Romney. It was as though no time had passed in 33 years – finally someone else addressing the crutial role of the American Farmer, someone else who could go forward and carry on the work that Blessed Pope John Paul II had started in Iowa 33 years ago. Now, Mitt Romney was with young Future Farmers of America, kids who were not even alive to hear Blessed Pope John Paul II’s message. Mitt Romney is indeed the right person to carry this message forward to a new generation of Farmers and landowners!

God Bless Mitt Romney, our next President of the United States! Patty Burgus

It sounds as if you think Romney will carry Iowa. If so, I hope you’re right. I do think there’s a better than 50/50 chance you could be, but Iowa is a tough state for Republican presidential candidates, for some odd reason. I’ve been studying presidential politics very closely since 1980, and have been predicting the Electoral College outcomes successfully ever since I started, meaning I’m eight for eight, but I think Iowa is a bit of a political enigma among the states. I wouldn’t bet one way or the other on it right now, even though I think Romney is a slight favorite there this year. I’m much more confident in predicting Romney will win the election than I am in predicting he will take Iowa.
