Nevada Voter Registration Update

We got an update from Nevada expert Jon Ralston.  The final numbers are just coming in and Democrats made a furious comeback, especially in all important Clark County, to push back on the gains the GOP made this cycle in Nevada.  Despite that comeback the GOP closed the gap on the 2008 advantage:

This is still a good showing for the GOP since Democrats had a 100k voter registration advantage overall in 2008 and statewide the Republican Party had more than a few internal issues to overcome this cycle.  Great effort in the Silver State.

Think about it this way, would you like to start a race with a 20% lead or 20% deficit? First, rather than an increased Dem advantage which they were gunning for, they have a deficit versus 2008.

Obama won Nevada by ~121k votes in 2008. On registration alone the GOP has made up 20% of that margin. Count in 2008 Obama voters flipping to Romney plus the change in enthusiasm and the race is no worse than even before we get to “Undecideds.”

Look at the 2000 and 2004 races and ask yourself if these GOP gains don’t seem like much. ~22k increase flips states like Indiana and North Carolina in 2008. And there’s a decent chance a state like Virginia ultimately is decided by 20k votes.

While the GOP would rather have had the 50-60k registration advantage they were enjoying in early September, this is still great news considering the official state GOP is worthless.
